I had the pleasure of shooting this family several times in the past and it was an honor when they asked me to do shoot their baby’s one year photos. She was absolutely adorable and the cutest “Minnie Mouse” I ever saw! Photographing young children is always a challenge. They have the propensity to always look at the ground and never at the camera. During her cake smash, this little lady only wanted to look at the cake, not eat it! What manners! It was a nice, sunny day and the foliage from the tree and brush lines provided for gentle, open shade for the portraits.

It is such a privilege to get to capture important life events for my clients. As much as I’m an photographer, I’m also a curator of these precious moments. Maternity sessions are always special. There is so much anticipation and excitement surrounding these shoots. This is even mores for first-time expectant parents. Such is the case with this Maternity session shot late spring in Medford, Oregon.
When you live in a relatively rural area like Southern Oregon there really isn’t a whole lot of scope for a more urban feel. The subject of this session, the beautiful, the talented Magic Powers, wanted to break free of our usual pastoral collaborations. So, we found the busiest overpass in our area and set up a shoot in the meridian at 5pm. The day was banked with fast moving clouds so the lighting was ever changing. It lent a nice variety to the feel of the photographs.

As a professional photographer juggling family life and work, I find that my four year old sometimes feels left out of my professional life. Lately, he has been bugging me to take him with me on shoots. So, I decided to give him one of his own. We live in the Beautiful Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon and Downtown Medford seemed like a great place to tromp around with the kid & camera. Here’s our fun shoot – a la Judah Beans.
